Caboodle Ranch was a sprawling, 25-acre sanctuary for cats located near Jacksonville, Florida. Craig Grant, the founder of the Ranch, described the operation as a “no-kill cat sanctuary”.
The open-air facility housed more than 700 cats dropped off by fans of the Ranch.
Caboodle Ranch was raided on Monday, February 27th, 2012, following a five-month undercover investigation by PeTA and a subsequent search warrant. Craig Grant was arrested on one felony charge of animal cruelty, three misdemeanor cruelty charges and one scheme to defraud.
Volunteers from 12 organizations launched a massive rescue effort to trap, evaluate, and treat the cats.
Craig Grant goes to trial in April to determine his guilt and the disposition of the cats seized from the Ranch. Until a verdict is reached, the cats are being housed in emergency shelters.
